Angus Neal, Angus Bewick and Mark Thompson met at school, Mark was in the year above so they didn’t start playing together until they left in 1989. So the nucleus of Mark on bass, Angus N on guitar and Angus B on drums began doing rock covers, fronted by singers Paul Caisley and then Adam Howells. It was not until Mark started singing that they realised that a three piece was the ideal UnderGroove line up.

There a followed some frantic writing of songs and gigging which culminated in two tours of North East schools and colleges. By late 1994 Angus B began to feel the call of adulthood and decided to leave the band to become a Policeman however at one of the college gigs they had met Jay Graham, playing with two other bands on the same bill!. After a little negotiation Jay was prised away to became the new UnderGroover. The new line-up began recording at GDR studios in Whylam. The GDR actually stood for Grannies Dining Room as Angus’ own granny kindly giving up her dining room for the UnderGroove cause.

Reviews in Kerrang and Sound on Sound Magazine led to them signing to President Records in 1997 resulting in the international release of the ‘Virtual’ album and specifically a Japanese only release of the song ‘Alright’ as a single. We are most pleased to make available a special version of Virtual. In 1998 however after touring across Europe the band decided that it was time to hang up their collective plectrums. Angus sold his equipment, bought a flight simulator and is now a professional pilot; Mark went on to University and is now a studio director/composer/musician for a music and video company.

Jay has remained the most musically active: touring with: Skyclad,  Swords of a Thousand Men (featuring Ten Pole Tudor); the Sabbath reunion band Return to the Sabbat; recording for The Morris Quinlan Experience (keyboards/trumpet/percussion; and Tony Iommi for his 2nd solo record. (playing Cozy Powell’s drums on that one!!). More recently Jay has been drum tech for Go West, ABC, T’pau, The Christians, Kool and the Gang and a couple of world tours with Spandau Ballet.
