Bruce Welch – The Shadows



In 1958 17 year old School friends Bruce Welch and Brian Rankin (the future Hank Marvin) left Newcastle for London and began playing at the legendary Two I’s Coffee Bar where they were spotted and recruited to be part of Cliff Richard’s backing group. As The Shadows they became the biggest pop group in Britain backing Cliff and in their own right, and became the template for all British groups that followed them. Brcue also several of Cliff hits including Please Don’t Tease, In The Country and of course Summer Holiday.
